Don't forget to visit the village of Houghton and Wyton on Sunday 21st June when some of the finest gardens in this Cambridgeshire village will be open to visitors in aid of our PANTS project.

The targets set by our charities, The Parkinson's Diesease Society and the Alzheimer's Society, have already been met thanks to our sterling efforts so all money raised at this event go directly to both charities. In the case of PDS all to the local branch. Hope to see you there!

Our charity golf day raised a whopping £930 thanks to the 23 golfers who supported us on 29th May at Abbotsley Golf Club, in Cambridgeshire. Sporting specially provided pants the boys did us proud for a press shot which this week we hope to see in the Hunts Post! The overall winner was Steve Jeffs who walked away with a day at Brands Hatch in September thanks to EACS of Kimbolton who so generously donated the main prize of the day. PANTS branded golf balls were provided by Acushnet of St Ives. Our MC and organiser Anthony is clearly having trouble with his pants!!

Excited and impressed to watch Helen from Blue Peter run the 24 hr Ultrathon in Namibia. What an achievement and what an inspiration. Delighted to see the Across The Divide team putting on such an impressive event in Africa and feel even more excited about the prospect of going there in October with the ATD team who've been fabulous. Alison (1/4 PANTS). That's probably too many excited's in one paragraph but its all very .... exciting!

Better than a May Ball!

Wow feedback during the week post the Ball has been brilliant. We raised around £2,500 which isn't bad in these recessionary times and of course what was important too was that people had a great time. More photos to follow but here's us PANTS girls doing things with pants - again!

We did it! The Charity Ball was a great success on Saturday night and all our hard work paid off. We're waiting to hear what the final sum raised has been but here's us having fun with our tools - getting in shape for the renovations we're going to undertake in Namibia! Exciting News. Janey Lee Grace has agreed to be our MC for the Charity Ball on April 18th! Famous for regular spots on Steve Wright in the afternoon on Radio Two, Janey is also a passionate campaigner for natural products as well as having a pop-singing past! We're thrilled to have her and feel sure she'll help our evening go with a really big swing.

April 18th is just over one month away and tickets are selling well. Batanai are supporting us with their special blend of authentic African sounds and there's much talk about how the hint of African black tie dress theme will unfold amongst those buying tickets! All very exciting now so don't forget to get in contact if you'd like to join in the fun too. We're nearly up to £13,000 and working hard to hit £20,000 by the time we go to Namibia in October

With all the doom and gloom in the news...with contacts being made redundant......Woollies possible going into receivership.... the PANTS girls have thought long and hard about the date of the next fundrasing event and have decided to change the date to April 18th, 2009! By this time we hope that our supporters will be feeling a bit more confident about the future, spring will be in the air and people will be ready for a really good night out!

Final Figure Raised at the Auction

Here are our trusty bankers keeping track of the finances on the night and collecting the cash. The total raised on the evening has now been totalled up and comes to a brilliant £5,630.51!! Well done to us and all our friends and family who helped us reach this amazing total.

Promises Auction November 08

Well we did it - this is the four of us at end of a long day and evening! Over 50 lots and nearly £6,000 raised which means we've almost certainly hit our minimum target of £3,000 each - £12,000 total - which is fantastic in only 6 months. Lots of thanks to our friends, family and supporters who made the evening so special with particular thanks to our two auctioneers Tony and David. They were incredible!

Sally, Karen's Mum, celebrated a "special"

birthday recently and asked friends and

family to donate to PANTS instead of presents.

They did and donated over £670.00 which was

fantastic !

PANTS STAR AT EDINBURGH FRINGE!

Although not billed in the Fringe programme, PANTS took a star turn in Edinburgh this year. Paul Merton, Johnny Vegas, Christopher Biggins were amongst some of the stars who signed some PANTS! I'm not really sure they knew why they were signing Pants but they were happy to help! These valuable items will be available at our Promises Auction on November 15th!

Recent party held for our local Parkinson's Society friends at Helen and Paul's pad saw the second successful playing of our very own spin on the coconut shy!

Now a regular feature of all our events these pants have never been so popular (or profitable!)

Here we all are on Fete Day, a bit tired but very happy after helping village friends and family play on our PANTS shy, guess how many PANTS were in the jar and sign up a few supporters who had pledged a promises our Promises Auction to be held on 15th November

The four of us had great fun at our village fete last week. A novel take on the coconut shy saw keen villagers supporting us by throwing soft balls into pants trying to reach the pants with the points in an endeavour to hit the highest score! It was harder than it looked!

Our pants theme knew no bounds with pants bunting (sensible sort with logos as well as bunting made with 'comedy' pants from the market) as well as a very large and visible panty line marking the point at which participants stood!

We were so busy on the day we couldn't organise photos but the sun shone and we took over £150 not just on the Pants Shy but also on the 'guess the number of pants in the jar' competition.

Although there's clearly a serious side to our efforts, it's clear that the pants theme certainly attracts attention.

Our Charity Challenge and how it works

Following our article in June’s Houghton and Wyton Parish Magazine and the great feedback we received from our stand at Houghton and Wyton Feast Week we would like to try and explain how our charity challenge works……

National charities raise significant funds from ‘event’ fundraising, usually organised treks, walks or bike rides – these are physical challenges. Everyone who takes part in these has to raise a minimum sponsorship of £3k, plus personally paying a registration fee. The sponsorship raised covers the remainder of the cost of the trip but more importantly raises money that the charity would not have received otherwise. In the case of PANTS we decided we wanted to undertake work for an African community rather than a physical challenge, so we’re donating our time and ‘skills’ to help build a school in Namibia, which we can only do through raising money for our nominated charities, the Parkinson’s Disease Society and the Alzheimer’s Society.
